Sundays Victorian Medical Men walk had a reasonably good attendance considering the threat of wet weather! Caroline Vernon was in good voice as she took us around the graves of a variety of Medics. We were introduced to Max Rossvally, a German Jewish surgeon who converted to Christianity after the American Civil War then came to Leeds – a pioneering neurologist Sir W.R.Gowers and Thomas Scattergood, first Dean of Medicine at Leeds whose forensic toxicology sealed the fate of Mary Ann Cotton! (Remember ‘Dark Angel’). There was also a conjuring Medic who was a member of the Magic Circle! A really interesting afternoon!!
